Department of History and Archaeology

The post Graduate Department of History and Archaeology was established in the academic session 2015-16 to cater to the demand for general higher education of girls. It provides Good Avenue for students who do not for science /specialized higher education and higher education in the field of languages. It is always better for every society /community to know its past and derive lesson from it for betterment of the present and future. History Department is the most appropriate platform for learning from the past. With these objectives in view, The Department of History has been commenced w.e.f. the academic session 2015-16 with admitting 26 students in M.A.History and Archaeology. Although the numbers is not much yet it is very encouraging for the beginners.
The students take keen intrest in co-curricular activities students and staff of History and Archaeology Department took active part in campus cleaning as part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. The creation of this Department itself is a part of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ Abhiyan as it provides expanded higher education opportunity for girls. A Talent Hunt programme was also organized on 05.11.2015 and the prizes were given to position holders first, second and third, to encourage the students. The department has been conducting an Extension lecture on 18/11/2015 and 28/03/2016 to provide exposure to the students to the various initiatives in the field of History and Archaeology. The department was organizing a debate on 12 Jan, 2016 the 153th Birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand.
We feel encoutaged by the large number of admission of students in History in UG/PG courses. Hence, we feel an urgent need to expand the Department by introducing the following new courses at UG/PG level:-
- B.A (Honours) History: It will be a 3-years duration courses providing specialized instruction in History at UG level. The pattern shall be borrowed from the University of Delhi. The Ordinance governing this course and syllabus for the entire course shall be submitted in the near future.
- M.Phil (History): This semi research one year programme will provide ample opportunities to the students to take up full research programme. Ordinance and syllabus will be submitted in the near future.
The Department of History and Archaeology is the latest university teaching department to be established with an objective to facilitate study of history at Post Graduate and Research level. The department will certainly meet the demands of rural girl students desirous of pursuing their career in History and Archaeology.
